All through history there have been bullies. This is
illustrated in many of the traditional literature titles we have just
researched, by Bible stories and many other sources across cultures and
societies. We have recently begun focusing on the effects of bullying on the
psyche and the consequences it creates.
Purpose:
Through a thematic unit on bullying I hope to teach children
to identify bullying behaviors and some techniques to address the behavior, as well as to explore the genres of literature that cover the topic of bullying.
Grade Level Focus:
2-3-4
Kelli, what a wonderful theme for your unit! This is such an important topic for kids to understand. Especially those kids who think that bullying is bad and don't realize they themselves are bullies. What a great exposure they will get! Can't wait to read what you find to include. :)
ReplyDeleteKelli!
ReplyDeleteI love your theme and what a great why for kids to learn about bullies! I see bulling happening everyday as all teachers do and it just makes me just sick of how often it happens. This unit will be a great resource to all teachers of the grade levels that you’re focusing on. To start your unit off it might be cool to start the unit by reading literature on how bullying has effected others or to have statistics of how much bullying happens in a school or their school every day. This might be a great way to get students interested in your unit on bullying!
What a great start!

Great topic Kelli! If I stumble on some book titles, I will be sure to pass them on!
ReplyDeleteI love the resources that you have already found. It would be interesting to do a study on bullying through the ages. How was it dealt with or addressed in traditional literature versus how we now deal with it. Hmmm. . . I can't wait to see this unfold. Great topic!
